We only show you Udemy courses that meet the following criteria:

  • Listed as FREE in the past 24 hours
  • Minimum of 50 ratings
  • Top-rated online courses first
To learn more about how this list is created and updated, click here.

We pull pricing information for all courses on Udemy once every 24 hours via the Udemy API.

We then filter that data according to the criteria noted above, and display the results on this page.

More about our criteria:

Listed as FREE in the past 24 hours

Udemy instructors can change course prices on the fly. We check the price of every Udemy course every 24 hours and show you only those marked as free.

Sometimes an instructor might update a course from free to paid right after we check it. If you see a course listed as free on this page but find it’s no longer free on Udemy, that’s likely what happened.

Such listings are automatically removed from this page within 24 hours.

Minimum of 50 ratings

We only want to show you the best free Udemy courses on this page, so we filter out those that have less than 50 ratings.

That way, you won’t see the crappy course from an instructor who published yesterday and got his friends and family to leave a bunch of unwarranted 5-star reviews.

Top-rated courses first

We sort our list of free Udemy courses by average rating, so the top-rated courses for each category appear first.

However, it’s entirely possible for a Udemy course to have lots of reviews and a high average rating… yet still not be very good 😕

To avoid wasting your time on those courses, check out our guide to properly evaluating Udemy courses.

Free Udemy Course FAQs

Why are some Udemy courses free?

It’s a promotional strategy. Udemy instructors can make their online courses free for a limited time to increase enrollment and gather positive reviews, making it easier to sell the course at a regular price later.

You’ll often see Udemy instructors running a free promo when they first launch a course.

It’s a bit like a new product in the supermarket offering free samples, or a new restaurant offering free appetizers: they know more people will try the product/service when it’s free, and hope that they’ll enjoy it enough to become regular customers and tell some friends.

It’s also likely that a surge in course sign-ups and reviews helps a course rank higher in Udemy’s search results, thus giving it more exposure to potential students.

Some courses on Udemy ARE always available for free.

Those courses are usually intended as “lead generation” engines, helping the instructors build their audience and reputation.

Are the Udemy courses listed on this page always free?

Some of the Udemy courses listed on this page are free for a limited time. Others are free indefinitely.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to know which is which, so if you see a free course on Udemy that tickles your fancy, it’s best to enroll immediately.

Udemy incentivizes instructors to switch a course from free to paid only once, meaning you’re unlikely to see the same course offered for free multiple times.

Will paid Udemy courses be free in future?

You might see a paid Udemy course offered for free or at a discounted rate in future, but there is no guarantee.

Udemy courses more often start off as free and then become paid, not vice versa.

So again: if you see a free Udemy course you’re interested in, it’s best to enroll immediately.

Can I find paid Udemy courses for free on YouTube?

You won’t find full, paid Udemy courses on YouTube – that’s against the rules – but you may find parts of them.

Udemy explicitly prohibits instructors from offering their paid courses for free elsewhere online.

Some instructors may still do it, but if so they’re breaking Udemy’s rules:

That said, it doesn’t seem to be against the rules for instructors to post PARTS of their paid course to YouTube.

Udemy themselves regularly post parts of paid courses on their official YouTube channels:

For example, a whole 45 minutes of this C# Programming for Beginners course is posted on the Udemy’s main YouTube channel:

So you might want to check out an instructor’s YouTube channel to see if any of their paid course material is posted there.

If an instructor has a YouTube channel, you’ll usually find a link to it from their Udemy profile page.

Can I find free Udemy courses on Facebook Groups and Subreddits?

Yes, but expect to kiss a lot of frogs 🐸 before you find a prince πŸ‘‘

I personally spent a lot of time looking through those groups and subreddits and the results weren’t good.

For two reasons:

  • Most of the courses posted to those groups are brand new, so it’s hard to know if they’re any good without actually going through the course materials yourself.
  • Those listings on Facebook and Reddit get outdated fast, and nobody deletes them. So the vast majority of the free offers and coupon codes you find on there are expired.

If it’s free online courses that you want, your best bet is to bookmark this page and revisit regularly.

  • We pull our listings direct from Udemy’s database every 24 hours, so they’re nice and fresh.
  • And we only show you courses with at least 50 reviews, so you never waste time on unproven courses.
