About the Author

Niall Doherty

Hey, I’m Niall Doherty.

I quit my last 9-to-5 job back in 2010.

Since then, I’ve earned my living online doing a variety of things:

  • Blogging
  • Web design
  • Advertising
  • Online courses
  • Ebooks

At the end of 2018, I decided to focus on affiliate marketing.

Here’s a graph of my affiliate income through my first 2 years…

All that to say: I haven’t simply taken lots of affiliate marketing courses – I’ve actually TRIED and TESTED many of the tactics and strategies shared in those courses, and know from experience what works and what doesn’t.

Best Free Affiliate Marketing Course

If you can’t afford to invest in a premium affiliate marketing course, these are the best free resources to get you moving in the right direction.

Affiliate Marketing for Beginners (Ahrefs)

This video from Ahrefs is an excellent overview of affiliate marketing:

Most videos on the Ahrefs YouTube channel are about SEO rather than affiliate marketing, but since SEO is a key part of affiliate marketing, you’ll learn a lot there.

Miles Beckler’s YouTube Channel

This video from Miles Beckler is a rapid-fire intro to affiliate marketing on a tight budget:

In that video, Miles recommends starting with the Amazon affiliate program, but be sure to watch his follow-up video about Amazon before you dive into that.

Here’s an interview with Miles where he shares what it really takes to earn $6000/month as an affiliate marketer…

See more from Miles on his YouTube channel.

Affiliate Marketing Course for Beginners (Udemy)

This short course by Tyler Stokes on Udemy is a good overview of affiliate marketing:

Note that Tyler’s course also heavily recommends the Amazon affiliate program, as it was recorded before Amazon slashed their commission rates to the bone in April 2020.

Authority Hacker’s Free Webinar

Authority Hacker webinar

Authority Hacker’s TASS program is my top-rated affiliate marketing course.

Unfortunately, it’s not free 😩

On the plus side, the webinar they use to promote TASS is packed with valuable info in its own right.

You’ll come away from it with a high-level understanding of how affiliate sites work and how to build them.

Income School’s YouTube Channel

Income School’s Project 24 is another premium affiliate marketing course that I rate highly.

They also put out lots of free content on YouTube, including this webinar…

Charles Ngo’s Guide To Affiliate Marketing

Pretty much all the other resources listed on this page focus on affiliate marketing with free traffic.

Charles Ngo is all about affiliate marketing with PAID traffic – Facebook ads, for example – and he’ll give you a massive 200+ page PDF about that when you sign up to his email list here.

I went through the entire PDF and found it realistic, reasonable, and ethical – a rare combination when it comes to paid ads training.

That said, quite a bit of the info in there is outdated now, so be sure to keep an eye on the emails Charles sends to his list. He’s quite good about keeping subscribers up to date about what’s currently working and what’s not.

Money Lab’s Online Business Toolkit

Matt Giovanisci of Money Lab knows affiliate marketing. One of his affiliate sites – about pool and hut tub care, of all things – earns about $25k/month (more about that site here).

Matt has a paid affiliate marketing course but if you sign up to his mailing list here, he sends you to a secret page where you can watch some excellent videos from his course.

Doug Cunnington’s YouTube Channel

Doug is another successful affiliate marketer who shares helpful videos on YouTube.

He mainly talks about monetizing sites with the Amazon affiliate program, and is perhaps best known for his KGR strategy:

Check out more affiliate marketing videos on Doug’s channel, or visit his website NicheSiteProject.com.

Glen Allsopp’s Link Building Articles

These three articles on Detailed.com are essentially a crash course in link building:

Some of Glen’s methods will cost you $ to execute, but you’ll find plenty of free approaches in there, too.

The Authority Hacker Podcast

The guys at Authority Hacker put out a new podcast episode every week, and the reviews are excellent:

  1. I find your affiliate course reviews extremely helpful, especially as one who is planning to start an affiliate marketing business asap.
I’m Nigeria-based. Considering that most of my prospects would be local and that most products are made in the West or Asia, with high shipping costs, wouldn’t it be better if I promote services rather than physical products?
    Your thoughts, please.

    1. Hey Napoleon,

Thanks for the comment. Promoting digital products would likely be best for your situation. Or you could target an audience in another country (eg. the USA) and be an affiliate for physical products they can buy easily.

  2. Thanks Niall
The information is helpful. What is your number one recommendation among these free training? of course they are not providing full package as the paid ones, but which one covers a bunch of knowledge to start?
    Thanks for your hardworking
