Customer, Pain, Solution, Offer

Here’s a framework you can use to quickly analyze an existing business or a business opportunity 👀

It comes from Dane Maxwell, who lays it out in his book, Start From Zero

  • Customer
  • Pain
  • Solution
  • Offer

A smelly example given in the book is a “spray to stop the odor when you take a dump.” 💩

The breakdown…

Customer: Humans embarrassed by the smell of their poo out in a public place or at a friend’s home.

Pain: The humiliation caused by a perfectly normal human action. Poop smells.

Solution: A spray that covers the top film of the water before you go, so the scent can’t escape.

Offer: $9.95 bottle.

You can use this framework to get better at “seeing” existing and potential income streams around you.

You can also use it to quickly describe your own business, by answering these questions…

  • Who is your customer?
  • What pain do they have?
  • How do you relieve that pain?
  • How much do you charge?
