π An anonymous beauty brand owner sharesβ¦
I have a beauty brand that’s been around for a decade and does around 100k a month. We started selling live on Whatnot 3x a week and within 3 months we’re doing 40k/month on that channel.
The ramp π
- Show 1: $1.5K
- Month 1: $20K
- Month 3: $40K/mo just from Whatnot π€
Why they’re so bullish: live commerce in China is already a $1T market, while the US is just $50B π
They’re moving onto TikTok nextβ¦
Tiktok JUST added a bid feature – exactly like Whatnot, and from what I’ve seen and heard, they push you to the FYP if you’re doing auctions.
(FYP = For You Page, TikTok’s main algorithmic feed β getting pushed there means free reach to millions.)
I’m guessing you don’t have your own brand to monetize β but plenty of small Shopify brands have inventory and no time to go live.
Find a brand you like, pitch yourself as their Whatnot host, and split the revenue π₯

With China’s 1.3 billion population, a $T in live selling per year requires that each man, woman and child… most of them peasants… spend $770 per year on live sold stuff. Maybe it’s a trillion yuan, but couldn’t be a trillion dollars.
Hey Rod, thanks for the comment. I went and double-checked that number.
Turns out you’re right that $1T is off. The actual figure for 2025 is a bit over 5 trillion yuan, so ~$750B. I should have written “approaching $1T” rather than “already.” Where I went wrong originally was seeing a projected figure of $1T for 2026, from a few years ago.
