This review is a joint effort between Will Peach (writer and researcher for eBiz Facts) and Niall Doherty (founder of eBiz Facts).

Our process:

  1. The eBiz Facts team had previously spent 100+ hours researching and reviewing online survey sites.
  2. Niall and Will spent a combined 5+ hours researching and testing Tellwut.
  3. Niall contacted Tellwut support to test out their responsiveness.
  4. Will wrote up his findings and Niall combined those with his own to create a first draft of this review.
  5. We sent the draft to our Freedom Business Builder community and the folks at Tellwut and asked for feedback.
  6. We made our final edits and published the review.

What is Tellwut?

Tellwut is an online survey site where you create and take surveys to earn points. You can then redeem these points for cash or gift cards (Amazon, Walmart, Visa, etc). “Tellwut” is short for “tell what you think.”

The site is open to residents 18+ in the US and Canada.

Tellwut doesn’t have a mobile app.

This way of making money online is known as GetPaidTo.

How does Tellwut work?

Tellwut is different from other survey sites in the way users can create their own surveys and earn points doing so. These are referred to as public surveys. There also are member surveys (member-generated surveys approved by Tellwut) and external surveys (created by third parties).

To take surveys, you login to the site and choose from most recent or most popular options. You can also browse Tellwut surveys by category…

The number of points you earn from taking surveys varies between 5 – 2000 points per survey. Here’s a rough breakdown of points earned by survey type:

  • Answer a member-generated surveys: 5 – 15 points
  • Create public surveys: 10 – 20 points
  • Answer external surveys: 25 – 2000 points

You can also earn points via referrals and just for signing up…

The survey information collected by Tellwut allows businesses to get targeted data on products or services. It also helps provide valuable public insight on current affairs, social behaviors and more.

Is Tellwut Surveys legit or a scam?

Tellwut is definitely legit and not a scam. The company has been running since 2011. They are based out of Toronto, Canada. According to the platform, they have over 200,000 survey takers in North America.

Tellwut has an A+ rating at the Better Business Bureau..

Source: BBB.org

But only a 2.9 rating on Trustpilot…

So is Tellwut safe?

Tellwut is safe. Many users report using the platform for several years with no problems. You’ll also be required to show ID to redeem points…

How much does Tellwut pay?

It’s estimated that Tellwut pays between $1 – $2 per hour.

  • Timmy Teller

  • Online Survey Taker at Tellwut
  • $1 – $2 per hour

Timmy Teller represents a typical person doing online research studies at Tellwut. As you can see, the earnings are pretty low, but this is typical for survey sites.

The number of available Tellwut surveys is reported to be good.

Although there are some reports of users not qualifying for external surveys until completing enough public ones.

Learn more about income claims and estimates on this website

Our goal at eBiz Facts is to give you accurate information about online business so you can gain clearer insights, make better decisions, and achieve your own success.

With that in mind, we strive to ensure the accuracy and transparency of the income claims and estimates that you see on this website.

Here’s how:

  • We treat all income claims we find online with skepticism.
  • We don’t report incomes that seem especially controversial or unrealistic.
  • We cite our sources and/or share our calculations so you can see where the numbers come from.
  • If there are uncertainties about an income claim or estimate, we tell you what those are.

If you see an income claim or estimate that seems off, please tell us so we can fix it.

What are Tellwut points worth?

Tellwut points are worth different amounts in USD cash, depending on which reward program you choose. For example:

  • $10 Amazon gift card is worth 4,000 points
  • $10 for Home Depot or Tango gift cards are worth 4,500 points
  • $15 Subway voucher for 6,250 points
  • $25 prepaid Visa debit card is worth 13,000 points.

One thing to consider is that pay is different for Canadians (for example, 6000 points are worth a $15 Amazon gift card).

Gift cards (Amazon, Walmart, Visa, etc.)

Minimum Payout 7

Starts at $10

Tellwut offers gift cards in exchange for points.

You can see a full list of redemption options here. Popular Tellwut rewards options include Amazon, Walmart, Visa, Home Depot, Visa, Subway and Sephora…

To cash out, click Redeem Rewards. $10 Amazon gift cards are usually sent by mail. Others are sent out via email within 24 hours.

Here’s a video from Tellwut explaining how you can redeem your points…

The minimum payout depends on the retailer. The lowest cash out value is $10 Amazon gift cards.

I’ve only seen few people reporting payment issues.

Earn some bonus points by signing up (details here)

Countries Available

USA, Canada.

You can sign up for Tellwut by clicking here.

You’ll get 100 points when you complete the sign-up form and click the email confirmation link. Completing the full registration process and adding your personal details gives you another 150 points (a total of 250 points per sign-up).

You probably wonder how much is that in USD cash. Let’s assume you later redeem your points with the minimum cash out option – via $10 Amazon gift card for 4000 points – a sign up bonus of 100 points would mean $0.25 potential earnings, while 250 points would mean $0.625…

You can also sign up using your Facebook account:

The first step of the process takes a couple of minutes. Adding more details to your profile takes longer but can help you qualify for more surveys.

Tellwut Hacks

I spent some time searching for and testing hacks to help you earn more money on Tellwut. Main hacks include:

  • The quickest way to earn points is to do polls. These are easy, multiple choice surveys that you can do in a minute or less.
  • Be careful not to go too fast. Tellwut’s FAQ section warns against this.
  • For more tips, check out our general list of survey site hacks to help you maximize your earnings on Tellwut and similar sites 😉

Tellwut Referral Program

Referral Program 8

Available (details here)

You can refer friends to Tellwut via the “Refer Friends” link in the gold box appearing on your dashboard.

You can also send people to sign-up using this link…

…where USERNAME is replaced with your own username.

You get 25 points per referral.

You might be wondering how much is that in USD cash. You will need to invite 160 friends to earn a $10 Amazon voucher worth 4000 points. That works out to around $0.1 earnings per one referral…

Tellwut Complaints

Main complaints include:

  • Poor pay (too many surveys for a minimum cash out)
  • Varying survey length (some as long as 15 minutes)
  • High minimum cash out for prepaid Visa cash rewards ($25).

Other users also report problems pre-qualifying for external surveys.

Is Tellwut worth it?

Tellwut isn’t worth it if you’re looking to earn a living working online. There are much better options for that.

The amount of work needed for even the minimal cash out ($10) is too much.

But Tellwut could be a useful way to make some extra cash if you do a lot of market research yourself. Especially if you create surveys in the platform for that purpose.

I give it a 1.9 rating.
