I couldn’t find the exact reference but I seem to remember reading that Wooden didn’t consider legends like Kareen Abdul-Jabber and Bill Walton to be the best players he ever coached.

To Wooden, success was about making the most of your potential. I believe he considered some unheard-of bench player to be the best he’d ever coached. The guy apparently had very little potential as a basketball player, but made the most of what little he had 💪
