Jane Friedman has several books for sale on Amazon 📚
The most popular, with 270+ reviews: The Business of Being a Writer
Writing in mid-2021, Jane revealed her earnings from that particular book…
I was paid a $5,000 advance for The Business of Being a Writer and I earned out that advance after the first year of sales. After my advance earned out, I’ve received an additional $20,000 in royalties (since 2018).
So that’s about $25,000 total earnings in just over 3 years, or about $8000/year.
But Jane’s books are not her main source of income…
most of my money comes from teaching and hosting online classes (by myself and others) and by selling a paid subscription newsletter…. I also offer some services and consulting
However, Jane is seeing her income from writing increase as time goes on ⏳
over time, I’m earning more from my writing and publishing activities. This is the way it works for most people. You don’t earn that much at first, but you keep at it. If you can stay in the game longer than others dropping away from discouragement and disillusionment, it’s possible to see results.
I reckon the same is true for pretty much any kind of online business.
The longer you can stay in the game, the better your chances of earning a good living from it.
