Emily McDermott writes, “I’m not a spreadsheet expert by any means.”
And yet she has apparently earned CA$280,000 – about US$209,000 – selling spreadsheet templates on Etsy in the last 2 years 🤑
She doesn’t link to her Etsy store in the article, but I’m pretty sure this is it.
Based on the number of reviews, this seems to be her best-selling product: Monthly Budget Spreadsheet
Emily notes that she earned $700 in her first month on Etsy, despite the fact that…
I had no email list, no social media following, and no experience.
One of her tips for success on Etsy is to make more than one listing for your product…
Instead of trying to sell just one “bookkeeping template”, for example- I would list a few different variations of one.
Look through Emily’s store and you’ll see lots of overlap between her 140+ products. Some of them are even identical or just have minor tweaks.
This gets her products showing up in more searches, and allows her to test which variations sell the best 😎
Emily also recommends looking for printables that are selling well on Etsy and providing a spreadsheet version instead…
If you look on Etsy, you’ll see that spreadsheets tend to sell for a higher price ($4-$40) versus printable PDF templates that sometimes sell for just $1.
It would take them a lot more time and skill to make a spreadsheet, so [customers] are more likely to pay a premium for it.
