Wayne Chin seems to make money online in a variety of ways, but for this profile we’re focusing only on his work as a freelance voiceover artist.
Wayne is a top-rated seller on a platform called Fiverr, where he sells his voiceover services. You can see his Fiverr profile here.
In the following May 2020 interview on YouTube, Wayne explained more about his work on Fiverr…
As of this writing, Wayne’s cheapest Fiverr gig starts at $50, and the most expensive starts at $250.
However, with optional upsells the value of each order can increase significantly.
Also note that Fiverr takes a 20% cut of seller earnings, and there is a fee to withdraw earnings via PayPal. One calculator estimates that a seller who earns $100 on Fiverr would be left with $76.80 after fees.
Wayne says at about the 2:10 mark of the above video:
I do have a degree in broadcasting and I do have an extensive theater background in acting and performance. But I wasn’t ever utilizing those skills and since joining Fiverr and doing voiceover work it’s really allowed me to bring those things back to light.
[…] But really the great thing about Fiverr as a platform in general is that you don’t necessarily have to have that formal kind of training to be able to be a seller in any specific category.
Of course it does help if you do have some kind of background in what you’re trying to pursue, but it doesn’t mean that there isn’t room for you to learn as you work. And sometimes that’s really the best way to gain experience in real working situations.
Wayne also reveals in that video that he started off charging low rates on Fiverr – he signed up for the platform in 2016 – and gradually raised his rates as he gained more experience and reviews.
Wayne may get some clients via his own website but it looks like the vast majority of clients find him via Fiverr.
According to our framework Wayne has a freelance business, which would be considered a Level 2 online business.
