Make money while you sleep?

You’ve probably heard people rave about online business models like affiliate marketing or ecommerce, and how they can “make money while you sleep” 😴💵

Stefan James, for example, likes to talk about how he earned $30,000 from one email he wrote in 5 minutes while on vacation (mentioned in my latest review).

What he downplays is that he was sending that email to almost 60,000 subscribers and had more than 2000 of them click through to see the offer he was promoting.

Make no mistake: building that big an email list, and gaining that much trust from your subscribers, takes a TON of work!

A few years back I earned $7,622 in only 3.5 days selling a digital product.

Which sounds great, but when you factor in the 300+ hours I spent creating and marketing that product before launch, my earnings worked out to a much-less-impressive $25 per hour, at best. If I had instead spent even half those hours doing my usual freelance web design gigs at a rate of $80/hour – standard for me at the time – I’d have earned $12,000… about 60% more money with 50% less work.

All that to say: be wary of people promoting an online business model that can “make money while you sleep.”

$100 made while awake is worth just as much as $100 made while sleeping, and the first is usually easier to come by.
