About the Author

Niall Doherty

Hey, I’m Niall Doherty.

I quit my last 9-to-5 job back in 2010.

Since then, I’ve earned my living online in various ways. Over the last 4 years (through 2023) I’ve earned $842,000 from my laptop.

I’m on a mission to accurately rate and review all the best online business courses. My team and I are spending many hours investigating these courses and getting feedback from real students.

All that to say: we know a thing or two about such courses and making money online.

How does Perfecting Blogging help you make money?

Perfecting Blogging aims to help you build and grow a blog that gets tons of traffic from Google and other search engines.

Blogging is the practice of regularly publishing written content, known as “blog posts,” on the internet. Bloggers typically write blog posts on a regular basis and publish them on a website or platform specifically designed for blogging.

Within the course, Sophia covers how you would monetize your blog traffic via affiliate marketing and display ads.

Affiliate marketing is when you promote other people’s products or services, and collect a commission for each successful referral.

Who is Perfecting Blogging for?

Perfecting Blogging sells itself as a platform for new bloggers.

As stated on the sales page…

This course is best for someone who is a new blogger or is looking to turn their blog into a business that makes them money. It is basically my dream course I wish I would have been able to take when I started getting serious about blogging. If I would have known all of this, my blog would have grown even faster and I would have made money sooner.

P.S. If you are an experienced blogger and already incorporate keyword research, this may not be the course for you.

Having seen inside the training, I tend to agree. Sophia’s course will undoubtedly teach you a lot about content creation and keyword research, but there are some topics that it barely touches upon. (More on that later.)

Does Sophia Lee have a good reputation?

For the most part, yes.

During my research of Sophia Lee and Perfecting Blogging, I only found praise for the training and its creator.

Sophia’s blog and social media accounts primarily focus on apartment decoration tips. However, she also hands out a lot of free blogging advice and tips on her site, By Sophia Lee.

She seems upfront about her journey as a blogger, which she started in 2018. I didn’t find any reason to doubt her claims that she makes $75,000 per month from blogging…

The only thing that’s giving me pause here is the lack of student success stories…

Are Perfecting Blogging students getting results?

It’s hard to tell.

Save for a few other online reviews that don’t seem to mention specific results achieved from following the training, I didn’t find a single testimonial for PB on the web.

Given how Sophia Lee has a huge social media following and more than 2000 members in her Facebook group, I would have expected to see far more success stories during my research.

My guess is that the training is good for getting people started with their blog, but doesn’t go deep enough to help most of them earn a living from blogging.

How much does Perfecting Blogging cost?

Lifetime access to Perfecting Blogging and all of its future updates will cost you $247.

Keep in mind that you will need to put out some extra money for a domain and hosting for your website, as well as a WordPress theme.

Inside of Perfecting Blogging, Sophia recommends hosting your website with Bluehost if you have less than 200,000 monthly pageviews, and with Big Scoots if you have more than that.

Perfecting Blogging Discount?

I’ve searched thoroughly for a coupon for Perfecting Blogging, but there doesn’t seem to be an evergreen discount available.

However, there is a place to enter a discount code on the checkout page, and I’ve seen Sophia mention that she runs a sale on the course 2 times per year.

Your best bet to be notified of an upcoming sale is to head over to Sophia’s website and sign up for her email list.

Refund Policy

The refund policy page for Perfecting Blogging specifies a 30-day money-back guarantee…

[…] If you are unsatisfied with your purchase, contact me within 30 days from enrollment and you can receive a full refund if you have not gone past Unit 1.

I haven’t seen any complaints about getting a refund, so you can be confident that the guarantee is reliable.

How is Perfecting Blogging structured?

Here’s what the training looks like once you’re logged in…

perfecting blogging review course page

The course is broken up into five main modules which are preceded by an introductory module and succeeded by many bonuses. Only a few lessons are in text format. Most of them have videos, but even these are accompanied by short and sweet text recaps.

Perfecting Blogging isn’t very long, but I’d say it’s more than comprehensive enough for beginner bloggers. It gives lots of attention to topics like content creation and keyword research, but I found it lacking in other areas.

In particular, the monetization module is quite short, with just 14 minutes of video lessons.

Sophia’s training also includes a bunch of bonuses, such as plenty of printables and an extra module. If you buy PB, you’ll also gain access to the Perfecting Blogging Facebook group.

Even though it’s not the most active community around and Sophia doesn’t seem to tune in very often, I still think it’s a nice value-add for the course. Pretty much every comment/question posted in the community seems to get a response.

Not as valuable as I thought it would be

I’ve been thinking about purchasing the course for months now. After completing another incredible course for building a website I was more confident that Sofia Lee’s would be good as well.

I needed blogging information so I purchased the course. Although I have learned a few tidbits of new information, the course isn’t organized and I’m left “youtubing” all the additional info I need.

The “updates for 2023” were basically at the end of each video with a black screen and audio of Sofia giving an edit.

Not $399 in value. If I had to do it over, I would pay $150.

Pros and Cons

  • Video head instead of just audio.
  • Disorganized information.
  • Not thorough enough. Needs more info on Google Ad Sense, affiliate etc.
  • More options for people that don't use Thrive (ie: Elementor Pro).

Watch out

She does know what she’s talking about but you’ll get more value by watching her YouTube content.

The course is marketed as extremely in-depth but the lessons are only 3-5 minutes each and are extremely broad. The one lesson that was actually helpful was her lesson on formatting a blog post.

I watched the entire course in 24 hours hoping it would get better but it didn’t. To make matters worse she has this ridiculous return policy where students can only be refunded if they haven’t watched past the first unit.

It’s impossible to judge the value of a course before watching some of the material and the first unit was just an intro (meet the creator, and so on).

The worst part about all of this? You can’t get in touch with her!

I’ve tried emailing her support team to request a refund but the messages bounced back to me. I even tried to get in touch via the contact form on her website.

I finally reached out to Teachable and they were able to refund me because she never even responded to them either.

Don’t take this course! Heather Farris’s courses are way more valuable for a fraction of the cost (for blogging I recommend Heather’s content strategy course).

Pros and Cons

  • The lesson on blog formatting.
  • Not in depth enough.
  • Extremely short lessons.
  • Poor customer service and poor refund policy.

Perfect for beginners - Wish I had found this 2 years ago!

Perfecting Blogging is a beginner-friendly blogging course with lots of value.

Although not super technical, the lessons are extremely helpful and will give the beginner blogger a push-through in the early blogging journey.

Perfecting Blogging is a video-based course, much like the creator’s YouTube videos. But be prepared to see her look more strict and friendly at the same time.

Sophia’s course made me craft a blogging routine that works for me. For example, I’ve heard of keyword research before but didn’t really know how to do it effectively.

Now, I know which keywords to target and rank for.

As for the earnings, I only started my blog this April. My blog is less than 2 months old. This is also one of the positive mindsets I learned from the course that it takes time to see profitability.

I bought all three of her courses and though I’m yet to see my progress in my blog, my Pinterest accounts are doing really well.

Pros and Cons

  • Shows exactly what she does.
  • Very literal and transparent.
  • No technical deep dive. But for the price, it's pretty good!

Excellent Option For New Bloggers

I wish I would have purchased this course when I was just starting blogging as it contains a lot of basics for new bloggers. However, I still found a ton of value in it. I have used tips from this course to continue to grow my blog, and increase my traffic and revenue!

Perfecting Blogging covers all the basics you need to know to get started blogging. If you are a new blogger looking for some guidelines, I would highly recommend this course.

As a more experienced blogger, my biggest takeaways were the importance of optimizing images and their tips on how to best format blog posts. Overall, I really enjoyed it and was still impressed that I learned something as I am not a new blogger!

Pros and Cons

  • This course offered examples of everything it taught, even an example site! This was really helpful to see the backend of the example website and all examples implemented.
  • The behind-the-scenes video tutorials were super helpful and are great to refer back to.
  • Some aspects of the course were for beginners, which did not apply to me.
