How did Michal get started?

Michal details her full origin story in a June 2018 episode of The Copywriter Club Podcast.

Key points from that:

  • While earning her masters in Communication Sciences, she interned at a publishing company as a marketing assistant. She ended up working there for 2.5 years and learned a lot about marketing and copywriting on the job.
  • She left that gig to build a career in speech therapy, and started doing some freelance writing and copywriting work on the side.
  • Then she became the in-house copywriter of a New York marketing agency, while still working 3-4 days a week as a speech therapist.
  • Michal was enjoying the copywriting work so she decided to make that her sole focus for a year.
  • Early during that year she signed up for a course called The Copywriter Accelerator and that combined with the 100% focus helped boost her business significantly.

Michal noted in the video above that she was earning $3-5k per month from her business in 2017, which means it took her about two years to take the business to $15k per month.

How does Michal find clients?

Michal’s words from the aforementioned podcast:

a lot of my leads come from referrals, from previous clients, but I’d say that at least 50%, if not more right now come from LinkedIn, which I’ve found to be an amazing, amazing, amazing way to generate leads.

At about the 1:00 mark of the above video, Michal notes that it was the combination of her LinkedIn strategy combined with the launch of her website that helped triple her business.

Also from the podcast:

I started with this amazing program, which I highly recommend for people who are beginning to put out content on LinkedIn. It’s called Thirty Day Social. It’s this free program that takes you and helps you put out content every day for 30 days consistently, giving you advice on what to post each day and different ideas and great ways to get more views on LinkedIn. I did this program and it blew me away, the response that I got.
