Living on the beach full time

An inspirational piece from Jason Kester, who explains how he built a business that lets him live on the beach full time 🏖

Jason started off as an in-office employee programmer in the late 90’s, then switched to higher-paying contract gigs so he only had to work ~6 months of the year. As the internet took off, he found he could do contract and consulting work remotely from places like Thailand.

Eventually he started building and monetizing his own software products. Sounds like it took him a few years to earn big money that way, but he eventually cracked it 😎

If you want to emulate Jason, he says everything you need to know is in this paragraph:

Consult remotely, build products and charge money for them. Pick a paradise beach that doesn’t have tall hotels on it and is therefore just this side of free to live on. Bring some savings and start small.

For me, the key takeaway there is that Jason built a solid freelance business first. That bought him the time and freedom he needed to build a higher-level business (SaaS in this case). One step at a time.
