Jane Austen’s Frequent Distractions

Jane Austen died more than 200 years ago at age 41 but is still renowned for writing such novels as Sense and SensibilityPride and Prejudice, and Emma 📚

According to a profile on her work habits in Daily Rituals – fantastic book, btw – Austen did much of her writing on scraps of paper between frequent interruptions in the family sitting room.

The house received a steady stream of visitors, often unannounced, but only close family and friends ever knew of Austen’s sneaky writing habit (she published under a pseudonym).

Of course it’s best to set yourself up somewhere sans distractions to do your work. But when that’s not possible, try to channel your inner Jane Austen and do awesome work anyway 😎
