The 130,000 Subscriber Growth Loop

Nice breakdown here of how Harry Dry grew MarketingExamples.com to 130,000 subscribers in 3.5 years, “using some of the smartest content distribution strategies I’ve ever seen.”

he didn’t even create anything new for 8 months in 2021, but his audience still kept growing.

Harry’s “growth loop” seems to be one of his biggest keys to success 🔁

It works like this…

  • Harry publishes an article on the website.
  • At the same time he publishes a threaded version of the article on Twitter.
  • At the bottom of the article, he asks readers to like the Twitter thread.

With that last action, Harry is ignoring the common advice to keep people on your website…

I think a lot of the “conventional,” marketing wisdom is, oh, keep people on your website, keep people on your website, but I just think that’s old advice.

But here’s why that works well for Harry…

Promoting his Twitter thread gives that post a boost of engagement, signaling to the algorithm that these are valuable. More people share it, and more new people see it.

When more people see his Twitter posts, this gets him more followers.

As those followers see more and more of his content, a percentage of them will subscribe to the newsletter.

Most people just send everything back to their newsletter, and they miss out on this additional layer of traffic.

A prime example of Harry’s growth loop in action…
