About the Author

Niall Doherty

Hey, I’m Niall Doherty.

I quit my last 9-to-5 job back in 2010.

Since then, I’ve earned my living online in various ways. Over the last 4 years (through 2023) I’ve earned $842,000 from my laptop.

I’m on a mission to accurately rate and review all the best online business courses. My team and I are spending many hours investigating these courses and getting feedback from real students.

All that to say: we know a thing or two about such courses and making money online.

How does Comprehensive Copywriting Academy help you make money?

Comprehensive Copywriting Academy (CCA) aims to help you enhance your copywriting and get paid to write for companies and business owners.

For example…

  • An e-commerce brand might hire you to write emails that drive more revenue.
  • A local personal injury attorney might pay you to choose the wording for a billboard advertising their services.
  • A large company might hire you to craft scripts for their Facebook Ads videos.

From the sales page…

Who is Comprehensive Copywriting Academy for?

CCA mentions two types of people who are a good fit…

  1. Brand new copywriters
  2. Copywriters with some experience who lack real traction

From the sales video…

Regardless of skill level, the one thing successful students seem to have in common is that they are serious about committing to building a successful copywriting business.

Does Filthy Rich Writer have a good reputation?

Yes.

Comprehensive Copywriting Academy was created by a digital business called Filthy Rich Writer.

According to the About Us page…

Filthy Rich Writer is an online resource for new and aspiring copywriters, dedicated to providing tips, tools, and training to help people create the careers of their dreams. We are deeply and fundamentally opposed to gimmicks or get-rich-quick schemes; this is about real career training for real career success.

From the founder and course instructor Nicki Krawczyk’s bio…

Nicki Krawczyk has been a copywriter for more than 20 years: freelance, on-staff, for agencies, for in-house teams, for herself as a full-time freelancer making six figures, and as a Copy Director. She’s worked for and with clients including TripAdvisor, Marshalls, Hasbro, Keurig, adidas and, yes, even Harlequin Romance novels.

Since 2012, she’s helped more than 9,000 students take control of their careers, their incomes, and their lifestyles through Filthy Rich Writer and its signature course, the Comprehensive Copywriting Academy.

I mainly found praise for CCA, Filthy Rich Writer, and Nicki during my research…

There were a few online comments that gave me pause.

The first is that some people felt the refund policy was unfair…

filthy rich writer review online comments

And that negativity apparently gets people kicked out of the FB group…

filthy rich writer review angrygirl83 online comment

Though another member explains why this might not be bad (and I agree)…

Another comment that stood out claimed speaking negatively about the program is not allowed…

filthy rich writer review negative online comment

According to the Filthy Rich Writer’s TOS, there is indeed a non-disparagement clause…

The Parties agree and accept that the only venue for resolving such a dispute shall be in the venue set forth herein below. The Parties agree that they neither will engage in any conduct or communications with a third party, public or private, designed to disparage the other.

Neither Client nor any of Client’s associates, employees or affiliates will directly or indirectly, in any capacity or manner, make, express, transmit speak, write, verbalize or otherwise communicate in any way (or cause, further, assist, solicit, encourage, support or participate in any of the foregoing), any remark, comment, message, information, declaration, communication or other statement of any kind, whether verbal, in writing, electronically transferred or otherwise, that might reasonably be construed to be derogatory or critical of, or negative toward, the Company or any of its programs, members, owner directors, officers, affiliates, subsidiaries, employees, agents or representatives.

To summarize, posting or speaking negatively about Filthy Rich Writer, Comprehensive Copywriting Academy, or Nicki Krawczyk is against its terms of service.

To me, this is a weird concept, but it does align with praise for Filthy Rich Writer’s no-bullshit approach to ensuring its community remains positive.

It’s also not entirely uncommon for this clause to be included in a company’s terms of service.

From the FB group’s rules…

It looks like those who agree with this style speak highly of Filthy Rich Writer while those who don’t have more critical things to say.

You could call this polorazing, which happens to be commonly found in good copy.

Here’s a video from Nicki’s YouTube channel so you can get a feel for her style…

How much does Comprehensive Copywriting Academy cost?

Pricing varies based on payment plans and changes periodically.

At the time of writing, lifetime access is under $900.

Additional costs are minimal…

  • ~$10/year for a domain
  • ~$20/mo for hosting

Comprehensive Copywriting Academy Discount?

I’ve been on the lookout for a discount or coupon code, but there seems to be none.

Looks like you’re expected to pay the whole cost for access.

Refund Policy

As a general rule, Comprehensive Copywriting Academy offers no refunds.

The official word…

We DO NOT offer refunds on our Comprehensive Copywriting Academy program.

But there is a conditional 30-day guarantee.

Here are the requirements to be eligible…

Watch all videos in the Foundations Module,

Provide all fully completed action sheets from the Foundations Module,

Provide the link to their active portfolio website,

Provide the completed Client Tracking Sheet from the Find Small Business Clients bonus course or the Client Pitching Tracking Sheet from the Client Pitching Masterclass with at least 25 companies and all associated details listed

Provide the 25 emails sent to these companies and any applicable one- and two-week follow-up emails

Some people have complained it’s unreasonable to expect students to accomplish these tasks within 30 days…

Another Redditor commented…

filthy rich writer review refund guarantee reddit post

I’m not a fan of conditional guarantees. There are many programs out there that offer an unconditional 30-day money-back guarantee, and this should be the standard, IMO.

So I wouldn’t expect a refund with CCA, but that shouldn’t matter if you’re committed.

How is Comprehensive Copywriting Academy structured?

CCA consists of core training, bi-monthly live coaching calls and recordings, Facebook community access, and bonus courses.

Bonus courses include topics relating to…

  • Building a portfolio
  • Getting clients
  • Writing for specific mediums
  • Mindset & motivation
  • Advanced scaling tactics

Here’s a look at the core training…

Videos are about 10 minutes on average and mostly feature PowerPoint slides.

Lessons are clearly labeled and often include supplemental text that makes it easy to reference specific topics.

Plus, the FB group is one of the most active private copywriting communities I’ve seen…

  • Lots of student testimonials and success stories.
  • Active and supportive private community.
  • Minimal expense beyond the price of the training.
  • Lessons are short and simple, easily digestible.
  • Regularly updated, with free updates for existing students.
  • Nicki Krawczyk walks her talk.

Red Flags 🚩

Some knocks on Comprehensive Copywriting Academy …

  • Conditional refund policy.
  • Lots of PowerPoint-style videos telling rather than showing.
  • Against TOS to speak negatively about the course.

Other things you should know

  • How to picture Nicki’s training: She’s provided an in-depth look at her methods to build her own successful copywriting businesses over the last 10+ years. Course membership comes with the benefit of accessing this information.
  • The training contains several downloads that you’ll find useful, including action sheets, spreadsheets, invoices templates, scripts, etc.

Should you join Comprehensive Copywriting Academy?

Comprehensive Copywriting Academy contains copywriting and freelancing training by veteran copywriter Nicki Krawczyk.

If you’re an aspiring freelance copywriter seeking to sharpen your skills and learn how to get more clients, there’s a good chance you’ll find value inside CCA.

From what I’ve seen, most people who join the program are happy with their purchase.

Keep in mind that this is an action-oriented course, so I’d recommend joining only if you feel confident it’s right for you.

Copywriting Course

I can say diving into Comprehensive Copywriting Academy was one of the best decisions I’ve made.

More than just sharpening my skills in copywriting, it guided me towards a profession I am utterly passionate about.

The course inspired me to embrace copywriting as a calling, propelling me to launch my freelance writing business.

It was the confidence boost I needed to venture into entrepreneurship.

I finally understood the correlation between the target audience and my creative writing skills, which has helped me tailor my approach for every client/brand I have worked with since then.

What started as a tentative step into the world of copywriting has blossomed into a thriving venture, with my income doubling within the first year.

This financial success directly reflects the enhanced quality and effectiveness of my writing, skills I meticulously developed through the academy’s teachings.

Now, I’m doing work I love, snagging projects left and right, and honestly, I feel like I’m just getting started.

I believe I earned more than 10k so far because of this course.

I am very satisfied and would recommend it to anyone.

Pros and Cons

  • It showed all that I didn't know and helped gain more practical knowledge.
  • Sometimes a bit complicated to understand.

Best Investment I've Made in Myself

When I purchased this course, I had initially been comparing it to another, more expensive one. Both coaches seemed to know what they were talking about. However, Nicki clearly had much more experience. I was worried she may be out of touch with current trends, but I was wrong!

Her teaching and advice are reliable, and the techniques are proven. She could easily charge 3 times the amount for her course. It would still be a huge bargain.

This course is called “comprehensive” for a reason. Two years later, I still haven’t watched all the videos in the bonuses. But I have a skillset I didn’t have before and the ability to make money on my terms.

When things come up that I’m unfamiliar with, there’s a training video I can reference. If not, I can ask questions on the twice-monthly coaching calls, post them in the FB group, or speak directly to a coach for guidance. It’s everything I could ask for in a course and more.

Pros and Cons

  • How comprehensive the course was.
  • The geniune support and cameraderie from like-minded students.
  • The price point.
  • I would like more live interaction from Nicki herself, even if just a quick Facebook live.
  • Initially, the organization of the content was overwhelming. That's been updated, so things are easier to find.

Make big money writing for industries you love.

I started the CCA core course in 2020 during the pandemic and I haven’t looked back.

It was tough motivating myself at the start (particularly with a two-year-old in tow), but it was worth it. From the very first module to the last, this program has not only met but exceeded my expectations. You need to put the work in and there are plenty of exercises in the course that help with mindset.

The course and support network has taught me how to be a copywriter, boosted my confidence and allowed me to build a thriving business. It’s opened up a world and a life I wanted but never thought I could have. I still can’t believe I make money writing for big-name companies in the industries I love.

I liked the CCA core course so much I’ve now moved on to the CCA Next Level course which is supporting me in the next stage of my business.

If you’re serious about succeeding in copywriting, I wholeheartedly recommend this course. It’s worth every penny and more.

Pros and Cons

  • Modules are easy to follow with plenty of additional learning added frequently.
  • The support and connections you make.
  • Lifetime membership is a massive plus.
  • The core training will support you and get you started. To expand your business CCA Level is ideal.

CCA is the reason I'm running my business

I thoroughly enjoyed the process of taking this course. The information presented is thorough and thoughtfully organized.

The Facebook group is incredibly supportive and helpful to me, even three years later with lots of professional experience under my belt. I keep coming back to the modules to refresh my memory on the skills I learned in this course.

I can honestly say that without the CCA my copywriting business wouldn’t exist. Nicki walks you through everything you need to know, from the nuts and bolts of setting up a business from zero to how to write great copy. Thanks to her guidance, I’m making six figures and can work from anywhere.

I’m so thankful I made the choice to join – it’s the best money I’ve ever spent.

Pros and Cons

  • Quality of instruction.
  • Community feedback and engagement.
  • Ongoing support/updates.
  • Honestly, I can't think of anything.

Transform your life with the CCA

The CCA course is easy to follow, packed with tons of actionable and useful information, and comes with a community of people supporting you.

The course is robust and is enough for you to pivot careers into copywriting, or enhance your current knowledge. Plus, there’s an entire business building aspect, so whether you want to work in-house, part-time, or freelance, you have all the information required to take meaningful action.

Before I took the CCA course, I was working 60+ hour weeks for 55k/year and burnt out before I was 30.

After taking the course and implementing what I learned, I’ve built my business to a 15k+/month, working around 30 hours weekly.

If you want to take control of your career, time, and finances – and have a passion for writing copy – then the CCA is for you.

Pros and Cons

  • Easy to follow with actionable instructions.
  • "Homework" assignments for practice within most modules.
  • Community of fellow students and coaches supporting you.
  • N/A - it was robust, there's free bi-weekly coaches calls, and you have lifetime access.

CCA gives you the tools to take your life back. Use them.

Nicki Krawczyk and the Comprehensive Copywriting Academy gave me back my life. Zero hyperbole.

It’s not just about learning to write copy (which I had limited understanding of before CCA). It’s about learning to take charge of your career with confidence, embrace the discomfort inherent in learning and growth, and take strategic action, to create the career you need, to fuel the life you want. That’s all included.

I joined CCA in 2019, when I was unemployed due to a disabling chronic illness. My first full year as a copywriter was 2020. I worked freelance verrrry part-time, because of my health. And with my very limited work capacity, I only earned 8x my CCA investment that year.

Four years into freelance copywriting, I’m still sick. But after I realized I’d also been psychologically and financially abused at home for years (which causes physical brain damage!), I jettisoned the offender from my life. (I could do that, because I have a freelance copywriter’s income flexibility.)

Now I have more capacity to *use* what Nicki gave me, and literally tripled my income within a 3-month period. As I take time to heal, I’m hitting growth goals well ahead of schedule, including hitting my first $8k month *on accident.* Dead serious. I thought there was a duplicate transaction, but nope.

So to recap, my CCA training helped me re-enter the workforce on my terms, when I thought I might never be able to work again. Then it helped me build a business and a new professional identity, with a strong network, portfolio, and growth potential. Then it helped me make my abuser financially irrelevant, and start a new life for me and my kids outside his control.

That might make me a bit biased, but… is it worth the effort to stop looking for a whole business to be handed to you on a silver template, work through the CCA, and put it into practice for yourself?

Yeah. You’re damn right it is.

Pros and Cons

  • Community focused on proactive action-taking and mutual support.
  • Self-paced flexibility to fit around life (illness, family stuff, a day job while you learn...).
  • Insanely valuable skillset and choose-your-own-adventure career paths.
  • No assessment of your practice assignments directly from the instructor (student coaches and other experienced students pay it forward, which actually helps solidify your own learning too).
  • Completing the assignments on your own can be tough/lonely, if you like the structure of a classroom environment.
  • That one person in the FB group who ever said anything mean to me (Let's call him Chad. Chad feels right.)

The CCA is a game changer!

I joined the Comprehensive Copywriting Academy in May 2020 without any previous marketing experience. I went full-time freelance at the end of June 2020.

Over three years later, I’m travelling the world, working where and when I want. I’ve developed great relationships within the CCA. I continue to learn with Nicki with every bonus course that comes out (at no extra cost), as well as in the CCA Next Level mastermind.

The core training is solid and covers everything you need to get started. However, the key to learning is inside the Facebook group. The structure for giving and receiving feedback is what helps us to understand and develop our copywriting skills. After all, reviewing and editing copy is more than 50% of the job.

Pros and Cons

  • Digestible and structured lessons.
  • Community learning.
  • No BS learning techniques, eg. handwriting copy.
  • Some negativity in the Facebook group from people who are struggling. It often looks like they haven’t applied themselves and are looking for someone to blame. However, this can spark others to hop on the bandwagon.
  • Shared controversial “copy in the wild” is removed from the group when it should be viewed academically. However, this does stop arguments in the group.
  • It can take some time to get your portfolio reviewed because of heavy attendance at the live coaching calls. But, you can watch other portfolio reviews to learn about main mistakes.

Replaced full-time income with part-time copywriting...

… and I attribute every penny to the amazing training and support I received inside the Comprehensive Copywriting Academy.

I have worked hard to put the course material into practice. I’ve leaned on CCA coaches and fellow students to help me overcome my roadblocks. Finally, I’ve been so much more successful – from a dollars perspective and quality of life view – than I ever thought possible!

The CCA taught me how to recognize good copy and how to write good copy. The course also taught me how to start and scale my freelance business. This training literally changed my life!

Pros and Cons

  • Informative videos.
  • Action sheets to put information into practice.
  • Community support to help me get better at the craft.

I'm a Full-time Copywriter Because of This Course

I went from not knowing what copywriting was to being a full-time freelance copywriter to getting hired at an agency. My work-life balance is finally where I wanted it to be — no alarm clock unless I schedule something early. I can walk my dogs, and it’s easy to pick my son up from school and read to him at night.

Will the course work for everyone? No. I had to actively take steps forward. It was challenging to learn a new skill and beat down my imposter syndrome and resistance (I’m still doing it).

But I didn’t even understand imposter syndrome/resistance before the course. I only recognize it now because I’ve read the posts from other copywriters or had them comment on my posts.

This training gave me the foundation of knowledge, and the Facebook group gave me the practice. I was giving feedback to other students and getting feedback from them. I found the confidence to say out loud, “I’m a copywriter” and never look back.

Pros and Cons

  • Facebook group for constructive feedback on my copy.
  • Bite-sized videos. I could keep moving forward without being overhwelmed.
  • Lifetime membership because information gets added. There's a yearly summit, and coaching calls happen twice per month.
  • I wish I found it sooner.
  • When you reach a high level in your copywriting business, you may need to move onto the next course to grow further.

Actually changed my life

I want to be honest with this review – I am currently paid by Filthy Rich Writer as a Student Coach. Now that I’ve got that out of the way, the following is an honest review of my experience since joining the course.

I first discovered the Comprehensive Copywriting Academy and copywriting in general after I saw a Facebook ad about making money as a writer.

I never considered myself a writer. I also didn’t intend to leave my job in the airline industry (that I loved) anytime soon. Still, it was the summer of 2020, and it had been a rough year spent on COVID-induced furlough.

I saw the course as something to do to stay busy while not working. It was also a chance to learn new skills to make me more employable if the worst happened and I was made redundant.

I didn’t expect to find I had a talent that people were willing to pay generous money for me to put into practice.

I motored through the course and learned a ton of information (seriously, there’s a load of content updated regularly). I engaged frequently in the Facebook group, created a website, and collaborated with freelance designers to produce portfolio samples.

I landed my first clients in December 2020 (a friend from my running club, my sister, and a client who hired me after sending my pitch). I even managed to fund all my Christmas presents and make back the money spent on the course before the end of 2020. All this was way beyond my expectations.

2021 was another great year, but I had to balance returning to work full-time and building my business on the side. It was exhausting, and something had to give.

It was an easy decision. I handed my notice in for my job of 18 years in January 2022 and went full-time self-employed in April. I’m now making over 6 figures as a business owner.

People might read this and think I’ve drunk the Kool-Aid or that I’m getting paid by Nicki, so I must be writing this from a rose-tinted view, but it’s absolutely true.

When I joined the course, I was sitting at home wondering if I will have a job in 12 months. Now, I work with clients worldwide, and make great money (more than double my old salary) on my terms and schedule. Of course, it sounds like I’m gushing!

This isn’t a “follow these steps to riches.” Not everyone who joins will have the same success. However, it is a shortcut to setting up a business and a crash course on how to write copy. It’s up to you to put that into action, get the clients, and get the results.

If you can’t write, this course isn’t for you. If you think you might have a talent, are unsure about it but also excited to find out, there’s one thing to do.

Pros and Cons

  • The content.
  • The community.
  • The opportunities it opens up.
  • You've got to commit to it and you've got to want it. It made me face some big decisions in life and take some big risks, but they paid off.
  • With so much content, it can feel a little overwhelming.
  • The price felt like a stretch (I was on reduced COVID salary) but looking back, it's woefully cheap considering the potential ROI.
