You should really click through to see her work 😍

No degree, no problem
Fun fact #1: one of the biggest tech companies in the world hires software engineers even if they don’t have a computer science degree.
From Google’s “How We Hire” page:
Do I need a computer science degree to be a Google software engineer?
No, a CS degree isn’t required for our software engineering or product manager roles.
(Here’s a list of other big companies that don’t require a degree for top positions.)
Fun fact #2: remote software engineers earn $63k to $134k per year 🤑
Fun fact #3: Google has started rolling out their “Career Certificate” training programs:
Learn job-ready skills to start or advance your career in high-demand fields. These certificates developed by Google connect you to top national employers who are hiring for related roles.
IT Support Specialist is the only one available for now. Takes about six months. There’s a one-week free trial, then it costs $49 per month. Median salary from an IT Support job is around $55k.
Earning $2 for every website visitor
That’s Sa El’s website: SimplyInsurance.com.
He reported in a recent interview that the site is earning $50k per month from only 25k visitors, an outstanding conversion rate 😲
Even more impressive: the site has more than tripled its monthly revenue in less than a year (ref).

Let’s keep going anyway
I’m currently reading and enjoying Phil Knight’s Shoe Dog.
My favorite part so far:
I thought back on my running career at Oregon. I’d competed with, and against, men far better, faster, more physically gifted. Many were future Olympians. And yet I’d trained myself to forget this unhappy fact.
People reflexively assume that competition is always a good thing, that it always brings out the best in people, but that’s only true of people who can forget the competition. The art of competing, I’d learned from track, was the art of forgetting, and I now reminded myself of that fact. You must forget your limits. You must forget your doubts, your pain, your past. You must forget that internal voice screaming, begging, “Not one more step!” And when it’s not possible to forget it, you must negotiate with it.
I thought over all the races in which my mind wanted one thing, and my body wanted another, those laps in which I’d had to tell my body, “Yes, you raise some excellent points, but let’s keep going anyway…”
The Billion Dollar Blog
Plenty of food for thought in this article by Nathan Barry (creator of ConvertKit).
The title refers to a fashion blog started by Emily Weiss in 2010, which evolved into beauty brand Glossier, now valued at $1.2 billion 💰
Two excerpts from Nathan’s article that resonated with me:
It’s a trap to think that no competition means an easy path to profits. Usually it means you’ll struggle to get initial adoption.
Compound interest is the most powerful force on earth. Build a product and brand that can experience compound growth. Then work on it for a really long time.
$60,000 via TikTok in 6 weeks
In terms of followers, it took me 3 days to do on TikTok what it took me 3 years to do on Instagram. But I was ready for it — I have an established, global business, credibility, and products to sell. As a former social media manager, it’s a reminder that consistency, credibility, and serving before selling are what grows your account — not paid ads or manufactured authenticity.
Tori’s biggest hit on TikTok so far (3.5 million views): Making bank teaching women how to make bank
One of the smart things I did was waiting to become a creator. I was a consumer on TikTok first, sharing and enjoying videos before I started creating my own. Doing so helped me understand trends, what content well, the way the videos were shot. I got to know the landscape and followed creators doing good work.
A detail that surely serves Tori well: the landing page linked from her TikTok bio.
It’s optimized for mobile, instant credibility with the media logos, and there are clear links to all her best content and affiliate partners 👌
Picks and shovels for TikTok
As the story goes, it usually wasn’t the prospectors who got rich during the California gold rush, but the people who sold them picks and shovels ⛏
Likewise, right now there’s surely a lot of money to be made by selling products and services to TikTokers.
And here’s a top-rated course on Udemy to help you master TikTok marketing.
Thinking like Bezos, Musk, Buffett
Michael Simmons writes that such billionaires think in 4D while most people think in 1D:
Dimension 1: Focus on one field (specialization)
Dimension 2: Learn across disciplines, apply to a specialty (polymath)
Dimension 3: Think vertically from hacks to principles (mental models)
Dimension 4: Think hundreds of years into the past and future (time)
The full article is worth a read.
But this 2018 quote from Jeff Bezos about sums it up:
“Friends congratulate me after a quarterly-earnings announcement and say, ‘Good job, great quarter.’ And I’ll say, ‘Thank you, but that quarter was baked three years ago.’ I’m working on a quarter that’ll happen in 2021 right now… I get to work two or three years into the future, and most of my leadership team has the same setup.”
If you have the luxury of not needing to earn much money right now, what could you work on that would pay off in a few years, rather than in a few days/weeks/months? 🤔
Amateur or Professional
Which are you?
This article from Farnam Street explains the difference.
Amateurs have a goal. Professionals have a process.
The Batman Effect
What do Beyoncé and Bruce Wayne have in common?
Per this BBC article, they both use alter egos:
Beyoncé’s was the assertive and empowered ‘Sasha Fierce’, who allowed her to perform with extra self-confidence and sensuality. “Usually when I hear the chords, when I put on my stilettos, like the moment right before when you’re nervous… then Sasha Fierce appears, and my posture and the way I speak and everything is different.”
If you find yourself feeling anxious or intimidated while building an online business – and let’s face it, we all do sometimes – create your own alter ego and let them take the reins for a bit.
Here’s a handy generator to help you come up with a superhero name.
