14 Types of Online Business
It’s an attempt to list and explain all the different types of online business.
The framework aims to give you a solid overview of the online business landscape. Think of it like a map 🗺 showing you the key features of each territory. Use the map to cut through confusion and overwhelm, and decide which type of online business is the best fit for your goals and abilities.
I’d love to get your feedback on it. You’ll find some prompts at the end of the doc, plus an option for anonymous feedback.
Mike Tyson earning $100k/month on Facebook?
Actually, it might be as much as $150k per month, according to this video from Lester Diaz.
The money comes from showing ads on videos shared on Tyson’s Facebook page, which has 8 million followers.
Rather than creating original content, Tyson’s team shares licensed videos that are proven to go viral 📈
If you have a Facebook page with more than 10,000 followers, you can show “in-stream” ads on your videos, too. But only on videos that are longer than 3 minutes.
A couple of random people on YouTube reporting decent earnings from this:
- Someone in Nepal showing they earned $1000 off one video
- Someone in Saudi Arabia showing they earned $4000 off one video
What Successful People Say
Sam Altman, former president of Y Combinator, writes:
Almost always, the people who say “I am going to keep going until this works, and no matter what the challenges are I’m going to figure them out”, and mean it, go on to succeed. They are persistent long enough to give themselves a chance for luck to go their way.
Checking your phone too much?
You gotta stay focused to build that biz.
If you’re getting distracted checking your phone too much, give Forest App a try 🌲
Interesting way to get freelance clients
Alec Larson builds sites and sells them on Flippa, makes about $1000/month doing that 💰
But he also writes:
Every time I auction a website, one lucky person wins and becomes the new owner. Of the people who don’t win, a lot of them send me job offers to build similar websites for them.
Since I’m creating custom websites for these clients I charge a lot more. These are typically entrepreneurs who are very serious about their endeavors and will pay well to get what they want.
So he’s essentially using Flippa as lead generation for his freelance work. It’s a way for him to showcase what he can do, on a platform where many of his ideal clients hang out.
How could you apply this strategy to your own freelance business? 🤔

TikTok Editor – interest is up 7,200%
why the growth: TikTok usage has exploded over the last few months. And as brands enter the platform, they want professional editors that can make their videos look great.
Maybe one of the opportunities you see there could be good fodder for an affiliate website?

4 Levels of Online Business
This is another request for you to go check out my Google Doc that lists and explains the 14 types of online business.
I’ve broken them down into 4 levels:
- Level 1 – Beginner
Best for beginners to earn a living online, but hard to scale.
- Level 2 – Intermediate
Higher income potential but you usually need significant investment of time and/or money upfront.
- Level 3 – Advanced
Most complex / difficult / expensive but also high income potential.
- Level 0 – Wildcard
Hard to consider these true businesses. Most are highly unlikely to provide you with significant or consistent online income.
I’d really appreciate it if you could take a look at the doc and let me know if it’s helpful, how it could be improved, etc.
That’ll do it for this week.
Was there anything above that you found particularly useful or interesting?
