List of companies still hiring

On Levels.fyi 👈

I see at least 80 companies there that are hiring remote.

3.5 million unfilled jobs in this industry

According to Cybersecurity Ventures:

There will be 3.5 million unfilled cybersecurity jobs globally by 2021

Ethical hackers can command high rates in this industry – up to $500,000 a year – but there’s also plenty of opportunity there for non-programmers.

Conor Walsh, for example, earns much of his $3000/month as a cybersecurity ghostwriter 🔒✍️

He wrote in our FBB group this week:

I was doing some quick keyword research on AWS this morning – where most of the leaks I write about occur – and its clear there’s a market for people who can teach businesses how to use the platform properly.

If you’re thinking about a career change or a niche to target, and you want to help keep people safe, anything in cybersec seems like a safe bet.

Ecommerce is booming

Search Engine Land reports:

Over the past past week, data released by Adobe, Shopify and PayPal reflect the scale of e-commerce gains and even “Black Friday” level traffic and transactions.

Does this mean you should start an ecommerce business?

Only if you’re willing to grind it out for a year or more before seeing a decent ROI. Because the people earning a fortune from online stores right now are the people who started many months or even years ago 🔮

If you’re looking to earn good money sooner rather than later, you’d likely be better off providing a service to ecomm businesses. Something like copywriting, web design, ads management, etc.

Quick hack to find ecomm businesses

Shopify recently launched an app that allows you to browse all the stores on their platform.

Ciarán Oglesby of Oglesby Media shared the following inside FBB:

I was able to find tons of shops in Ireland and across the world that use Shopify that I never knew existed within seconds of opening the app. If you are looking for web design / email marketing leads like me, it’s bloody fantastic. All the Shopify stores at the touch of your fingertips!

In case that’s not clear: the app makes it easy to find online stores that might have need for your services.

The Real Thing vs Fake Alternatives

Scott Young writes:

Success largely boils down to a simple distinction. It’s glaringly obvious once you see it, but also easy to find ingenious ways of ignoring it: do the real thing and stop doing fake alternatives.

Consider one person who wrote to me saying she turned down a job working in French. She didn’t feel her French was good enough yet. So instead, she planned to listen to podcasts at home every day until she was ready.

You know what would have helped her get good at French? Working at the job in French.

Working at a job in the language she wanted to speak was the real thing for her. Listening to podcasts at home to prepare was the fake alternative she chose instead.

What fake alternatives have you been busying yourself with to avoid doing the real thing?

Watch this before buying an online course

This video from James Jani should be required viewing before spending a small fortune on any online course.

In particular, be wary of anyone marketing a course by showing off a dream lifestyle, or telling you that success is easy to achieve.

I’ve reviewed quite a few expensive courses now and these are the only two things that really matter:

  • Is the course creator a credible, believable person?
  • Is there clear proof that a significant number of prior students have achieved success by following the training?

If the answer is “no” to either of those questions, proceed with caution.

If the answer is “no” to both of those questions, forget it.

Affiliate Marketing Step-by-Step Beginners Guide

This video from Miles Beckler is on point.

I’ve added it as one of the top free resources on my best affiliate marketing training page.

The kind of person who can handle it

From a new book called Start From Zero:

If I were to give you a $10,000-per-month business, would you know how to handle that?

No.

Unless you’d been trained. You wouldn’t.

So instead of only desiring an outcome, also wish to transform into the kind of person who can handle that type of outcome. If you become that kind of person, you’ll not only be able to handle it, you can create the same outcome over and over again.

Everyone wants a $10k/month or a $100k/month business, but few people are willing to do the work to get there.

The same way many people would like to be LeBron James, but few are willing to put in his level of work and sacrifice.

Imagine being subbed in for LeBron during the last minutes of a playoff game. Do you think you’d perform well?

Actually, forget LeBron James: imagine the best basketball player in your local rec league. Could you step into their shoes and carry the load?

The level of practice and effort you’d need to achieve that level of success is probably a fair analogy for building a $10,000/month online business.

AppSumo Freebies

29 free courses and tools listed here 😎

I haven’t gone through any of them properly myself, but there are a few courses related to Google and Facebook ads that look decent if you want to get into that.

Playing games for big $$$

Four upcoming online chess tournaments will have $1 million total prize money 💰

Seeing that news this morning sent me down an esports rabbit hole.

This site shows you which esports players and games earn the most money.

Overall it looks like esports hasn’t been immune to coronavirus: total prize money for last month was down 57% compared to April 2019.

But, so far this year, fourteen players have still managed to earn more than $100,000 🤑 and US players have won $4.61 million overall 🇺🇸

Here’s a list of the top games for 2020.

Related: looks like bookies might be making the most money from esports right now

That’ll do it for this week.
