One video monetized 8 different ways
About a month ago an artist 🎨 on YouTube published this video: I made a FIVERR page & DRAW ANYTHING people want for $5!!
It has almost a million views and it’s fun to watch. But what really caught my eye was the next-level monetization going on there.
I counted no less than 8 different ways he’s making money via that video:
- Fiverr – earned about $700 from the gig featured in the video
- Squarespace sponsorship – that could have earned him $10,000 to $50,000 (source)
- YouTube ad revenue – $1,840 estimated earnings for the video (source)
- Patreon – earning $2,196/month from 227 patrons
- Merch store – several +$50 hoodies sold out
- YouTube membership – members pay $3 to $25 per month
- Online art class – priced at $179
- Amazon affiliate links
Some of those he promotes in the video itself, and some are linked from the description.

All told, I wouldn’t surprised if he’s already earned at least $20,000 from that one video 💰📹

The aforementioned YouTuber has almost a quarter million subscribers, so it’s not like anyone can post a similar video and bank $20k.
But it highlights a principle I see gaining popularity 📈
It’s a principle Austin Kleon highlighted in his 2014 book, Show Your Work.
It sounds a little extreme, but in this day and age, if your work isn’t online, it doesn’t exist. We all have the opportunity to use our voices, to have our say, but so many of us are wasting it. If you want people to know about what you do and the things you care about, you have to share.
What other examples have you seen of people showing their work online, especially the behind-the-scenes stuff?
And could you benefit from doing similar?

Sam Ovens Review Update
Last week I mentioned that I’d spent $1,497 on Sam Ovens’ Consulting Accelerator course.
My goal is to write the most in-depth and comprehensive review of that course, similar to several I’ve published previously.
But this is the first time I’m pulling back the curtain and giving everyone access to my raw review notes (now at 500+ pages).
As I said, it’s an experiment, but judging by the clicks and feedback so far, methinks I’ll be doing all my reviews this way from now on 👍

You’d basically be the face of the company for a year, get paid $150k, and they’d cover your estimated $350k travel costs 🏖🛫
This ebook earned $60,000 since Christmas
Daniel Vassallo and a friend wrote a book about Amazon Web Services, launched it on Christmas Day 🎄 and earned $20k in revenue in the first three days alone.
Daniel reported earlier this week on Twitter that they’ve now sold about 2000 books and grossed $60k 🤑
Why do you think that ebook did so well when so many others fall flat?
Step-by-step frameworks for sales calls
This one on Reddit is pretty simple and general.
The person posting it commented:
This saved my life. I was struggling to convert clients until I understood this framework.
This framework on YouTube is more in-depth and explained for web designers, though much of it would apply for selling any high-ticket service 💰
The guy who made that video says he’s used the same framework for landing $20k website projects.

A quick way to test your ideas
From an interview with Mike Zima on Side Hustle Nation:
Mike has developed a theory that he applies to almost all of his [Fiverr] gigs, he calls it “Rapid Prototyping.”
What this means is, setting up and testing a gig inside of a lunch break — in just 1 hour.
Not getting hung up on analyzing and tweaking things. Mike said if you’re taking longer than an hour to set up a gig, you’re losing time. You can also go back later and refine your gig if it’s not working, and even optimize it further if it is working.
According to Business Insider, Mike was already earning 6 figures on Fiverr a couple of years ago, so that approach has clearly worked well for him.
