No money/skills/experience → $48k/month
New interview on eBiz Facts: On building a $48k/month business with no money, skills or experience
Back in 2009, Victor Thomas was 32 years old and had barely worked a day in his life. He’s since built a very profitable web design agency 💰💰💰 despite never really learning to code or use Photoshop.
Definitely give his story a read if you’re starting from scratch with your own online biz.
And if you’re already up and running, you might be interested to learn about Victor’s “mafia offer,” which doubled his business overnight.
3 things about ConvertKit
First – they’re hiring remote for four positions: Software Engineer, Director of Product, Product Designer, Software Engineering Manager.
Third – they’re kicking off a landing page challenge today, with a top prize of $10,000 up for grabs 🎉
Why Mr Beast is a genius
Here’s a nice 10-minute video breakdown of how 21-year-old YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson (aka MrBeast) is racking up ~300 million views per month and earning himself millions of dollars.
- Cracking the viral formula
- Beating the YouTube algorithm
- Reinvesting / raising the stakes
- Not being a 💩
(Also interesting to see that video about MrBeast practicing what they teach. Almost 2.5 million views in a couple of weeks!)
10 minutes of cold calling
Here’s a video of Benjamin Dennehy (aka the UK’s Most Hates Sales Trainer) cold calling prospects for ten minutes straight 📞
From the description:
In this video I make 3 back to back cold calls. Each gets to a decision maker. Each call is different. I never beg, plead or sound needy. I’d rather get a no with dignity than a yes with desperation. The purpose of a cold call isn’t to get everyone to say yes, but to find the right people to say yes.
The last call in particular is masterful. He could easily have gotten a meeting with the prospect, but he pushed it there and then on the phone until it was obvious it would never turn into a sale. Saved them both a ton of time.
If you’re selling a service to local businesses, what do you think would happen if you spent an hour a day cold calling like that?
This guy on Reddit ended up making a consistent $8k/month, and I reckon his approach to cold calling pales in comparison to Benjamin’s.
20% off Earn More Writing
I reviewed this course for freelance writers several months back and gave it 4.5 stars 🤩
They’re running a promo for the new year, first discount offer I’ve seen for it.

This book lives up to the hype
You’ve probably heard of Atomic Habits 📖
I started into it a few days ago – it’s one of three reads in this month’s FBB book club – and so far it’s living up to the hype.
One of the many passages I’ve highlighted already:
if you can get 1 percent better each day for one year, you’ll end up thirty-seven times better by the time you’re done. Conversely, if you get 1 percent worse each day for one year, you’ll decline nearly down to zero.
Ask yourself: how can I get 1% better today?
Failing that: how can I at least avoid getting 1% worse?
Affiliate marketing in 2020
I’m a big fan of the guys at Authority Hacker, and saw solid results from their training last year 📈
On Monday they released an excellent podcast episode explaining how their authority site model works. Definitely worth a listen if you’re interested in affiliate marketing.
My latest batch of personal ramblings are on Patreon if you fancy a look 👀
That’ll do it for this week.
