Dmitry Dragilev
- Founder of JustReachOut
- $20,000 approximate monthly revenue before sale
Dmitry Dragilev bootstrapped and eventually sold JustReachOut.
That’s software that provides tools and a database of 700K+ journalists to help companies build high-quality backlinks and plan effective PR strategies.
Dmitry sold 80% of the business in 2020 for “between $700,000 and $900,000” 🤑
At the time, JustReachOut was generating around $250,000 in annual revenue, or about $20K a month.
Dmitry started the business in 2014, helping customers with outreach campaigns and ultimately SEO…
The backlinks JustReachOut helps companies build are valuable because they signal to Google that other websites find your content useful enough to link to within their content.
The more quality backlinks your website has, especially from reputable sites like major media outlets, the higher your content can rank on search engines like Google 📈
So JustReachOut essentially helps their customers shortcut the SEO process by making backlink-building more turnkey.
But Dmitry had to do a lot of one-on-one work and customer hand-holding in the early days…
I got a hundred people in it, 200 people in it, and then… it wasn’t working out for those people cause they… didn’t know how to do PR. So I started teaching them how to do PR and I started figuring out how to do that and educate them.
…And then I had to work on that part and I was kind of a little bit all over the place as a sole founder, without a team and trying to grow this, earn a living and… sustain my family life as well.
Dmitry eventually transitioned JustReachOut to more of a lifestyle business, spending about 15-20 hours per week on it 😎
Then, six years after launch, he made the sale.
Dmitry still owns 20% of the company and serves as a brand ambassador.
When I heard this story I was reminded of another we featured recently 👇
That was a “database” business that gave PR agencies a big list of podcasts they could pitch their clients to, to get them more exposure.
And a big part of Dmitry’s business is the database of journalists that customers could get access to.
What other lists or databases might people pay for? 🤔
Have you ever gone looking for contact info for a certain group of people but couldn’t find anything?
Could be a business there.
