Online Game Pays More Than Uber

I mentioned Axie Infinity a few weeks ago, an NFT-based online video game that’s especially popular in the Philippines 🇵🇭

Coinbase reports:

some players in the Philippines are earning 5–10x what they were making from their previous jobs. New homes have been purchased, charitable acts have been made, and even shops are accepting SLP as payment.

Unfortunately Axie Infinity is not free to play. And as the game has grown more popular, the startup cost – ie. the price of 3 Axie Infinity characters (NFTs) – has been rising. Right now it will cost you $700+ to buy in 😱

That’s where Yield Guild Games comes in.

From the same Coinbase article:

Similar to how Uber pairs people who want to earn money driving with people who need rides, YGG pairs people who want to make money gaming with the NFTs they need to earn in play-to-earn games. In many parts of the world, people are opting to work with YGG over Uber simply because it pays more.

So YGG basically lets you use their NFTs so you can play the game, and you keep 70% of what you earn from play.

Crunching the numbers shared by Coinbase, it looks like the average player was taking home $568 per month via YGG 💵

No idea how many hours they had to put in to earn that much, but if you’re in a lower-income country and enjoy playing online games, it could well be worth your while.

Here’s an 18-minute video showing you how to play Axie Infinity…
