$1200/Month Selling Whispered Conversations

Dhruv Kar
  • Dhruv Kar

  • Owner of FundedList
  • $1200 monthly revenue

That’s how I’d describe FundedList.

Dhruv Kar bought the business a few months back and reports that the project earns about $1200 per month 🤑

He describes it like so…

It’s a weekly list of companies that were funded in the last 7 days with founder/ceo contact information.

I use a mix of scraping and manual validation to make the list and currently doing cold emails to sell. I’m not truly a developer or a marketer, so learning a lot while attempting to make this work.

It seems to be valuable to different types of agencies — recruiting, design, web etc.

Here’s Dhruv asking on Hacker News for advice on growing the business, and sharing an example report that he sends out to customers (it’s a simple spreadsheet with 400+ rows).

Another way to think of Dhruv’s business: he’s democratizing information.

Similar to Rich Barton, but on a much smaller scale.

💰 Rich Barton founded three companies each worth over a billion dollars…

  • Expedia
  • Zillow
  • Glassdoor

Kevin Kwok writes that Barton built all three companies using the same playbook:

Glassdoor revealed how employees really felt about companies. Zillow shed light on what any house was worth. Expedia let people see the prices and availability of flights and hotels without talking to an agent. These were knowable things that people have always talked about with each other.

[…] Rich Barton took these whispered conversations and made them public for everyone to see. Afterwards, everyone wondered why they were ever private.

What whispered conversations could you make public? 🤔
