As an employee, it’s very easy to embrace this attitude…
Just tell me what to do and I’ll do it.
You do whatever your boss or manager tells you to do, and you get paid.
Great 👍
Unfortunately, many people carry that same attitude with them when starting their own business.
I was one of those people.
I didn’t start my first business until I was 28 years old, after a decade of being an employee 👨💼
And because I still had that employee mindset when starting out, I was constantly looking for step-by-step guides or systems that I could blindly follow to build a successful online business.
Just tell me what to do and I’ll do it.
Unfortunately, that’s not how entrepreneurship works.
Sure, some guides and courses can be helpful, even indispensable. They teach you best practices, help you avoid common mistakes, and greatly speed up your progress 🚀
But ultimately entrepreneurship is a creative pursuit. It’s about finding your own path and building a business that’s unique to you. It’s about figuring out your own step-by-step process.
Think of an entrepreneur you admire: did they become successful by blindly following a system someone else had figured out? 🤔
I doubt it.
They may have started out trying to do it that way, but eventually they realized – like I did – that there is no one-size-fits-all step-by-step plan for building a successful business.
And that’s because so much of it depends on YOU…
- Your goals
- Your strengths
- Your weaknesses
- Your skills
- Your resources
- Your opportunities
What worked for someone else may not work for you, and vice versa.
So keep in mind that entrepreneurship requires you to be creative, to figure things out as you go, to put your own spin on things.
The sooner you embrace that mindset, the better off you’ll be 😎
