The Internet Dad With 4.5 Million YouTube Subscribers

Rob Kenney
  • Rob Kenney

  • Internet Dad
  • $7000+ estimated monthly revenue

Back in April 2020, Rob Kenney started a channel called Dad, how do I?

Rob is in his 50’s now but his own father left him when he was a kid. He started his channel as a way to teach kids things his dad never taught him 🥰

His first couple of videos…

  • How to tie a tie…
  • How to shave your face…

According to the Washington Post, Rob’s channel took off quick…

Kenney released his first video shortly after the coronavirus pandemic was declared. He wanted to provide practical advice (“How to fix most running toilets”) and emotional support (“I am proud of you!”). But in a time defined by isolation and loneliness, his messages resonated with far more than the 30 or 40 subscribers he expected as the world craved connection. Less than two months after his first post, he surpassed 1 million subscribers.

  • How to fix most running toilets…
  • I am proud of you!…

Rob now has 4.5 million subscribers on YouTube, has published a book, and occasionally has dad chats with the likes of Kevin Hart 🤯…

Social Blade estimates that Rob’s channel earns up to $2000/month from YouTube ads. That’s way less than I expected, but it could be accurate given that most of his newer videos only get 10-50k views.

Rob also monetizes his channel with sponsorships. For example, his video about filing taxes is sponsored by FreeTaxUSA…

He’s also building up big followings on other platforms…

All told, I’d estimate that Rob’s brand is earning him at least $7,000 per month, and likely much more than that.My main takeaway from his success is how simple and genuine his videos are. Rob shoots the videos on his smartphone, doesn’t use any fancy editing, and is known to drop the occasional dad joke 😂…
