How does Kerry make money online?

Kerry doesn’t really exist. She’s our avatar to represent a typical person earning cash back by shopping online with Rakuten.

Rakuten is a website that gives you up to 40% cash back at over 2,500 stores like Macy’s, Old Navy, Apple and Nike.

How does Rakuten work?

Say you buy something from Macy’s via Rakuten’s platform. Macy’s then pays Rakuten a commission for sending them your business. Rakuten then shares a portion of that commission with you as cash back.

Is Rakuten legit or a scam?

You can rest assured that Rakuten is a legit website and service, for three reasons.

First of all, the company has thousands of partnerships with well-known companies and brands. That’s how they are able to offer so many discounts and cash back rewards on purchases made through their platform.

Second, the company was founded in Japan in 1997 and is often referred to as “the Amazon of Japan.” Per Wikipedia, Rakuten “operates Japan’s biggest Internet bank and number one credit card company by transaction value.”

Third, Rakuten is accredited by the Better Business Bureau…

As you can see, Rakuten’s BBB rating and average customer review are also both quite impressive.

How much money does Kerry make?

Kerry wouldn’t really “make” any money using Rakuten. She’d simply be saving money on her purchases.

So instead of spending $50 on a new outfit, Kerry might only spend $30 or $40 by doing her shopping via Rakuten. She could then save the $10-20 difference, or use it to buy something else.

How much money you save on Rakuten is ultimately tied to how much you spend. The more you spend, the more you save.

That can be a slippery slope, however.

If your goal is to save money, I’d recommend only using Rakuten for essential purchases.

Learn more about income claims and estimates on this website

Our goal at eBiz Facts is to give you accurate information about online business so you can gain clearer insights, make better decisions, and achieve your own success.

With that in mind, we strive to ensure the accuracy and transparency of the income claims and estimates that you see on this website.

Here’s how:

  • We treat all income claims we find online with skepticism.
  • We don’t report incomes that seem especially controversial or unrealistic.
  • We cite our sources and/or share our calculations so you can see where the numbers come from.
  • If there are uncertainties about an income claim or estimate, we tell you what those are.

If you see an income claim or estimate that seems off, please tell us so we can fix it.

How did Kerry get started?

Kerry would have visited the Rakuten website and signed up for a free account.

What type of online business does Kerry have?

Well, it’s hard to call it a business, as Kerry would be saving rather than earning money.

That said, according to our framework this would fall into the GetPaidTo category, and we’d consider it a Level 1 online business.

Other ways to make money online

There are many other ways to make money online, to work from home or anywhere in the world.
