Nate Dallas – Serial Entrepreneur

  • $2,500 monthly royalties for one product idea

How does Nate make money online?

Nate is a self-described serial entrepreneur and it looks like he makes money online in various ways.

For this profile I’ll just be focusing on his product licensing business.

In a 2015 interview with Side Hustle Nation, Nate shared how he and his brother had earned $300,000 in passive income by licensing their idea for a board game to Mattel.

Mattel developed the idea into Pictionary Mania, a game which was eventually sold in 30 countries but never in the USA.

Here’s an ad for the game:

How much money does Nate make?

The Side Hustle Nation interview was recorded in 2015 and Pictionary Mania was released in 2005 (source), so we can assume that Nate’s $300,000 in royalties were paid out over a ten-year period.

That works out to $2,500 per month for ten years, presumably split between Nate and his brother.

Nate mentioned in the interview that he went on to license more game ideas afterwards, but apparently none were as successful as Pictionary Mania.

How did Nate get started?

After getting a degree in marketing, Nate was studying to become a dentist when he and his brother came up with the idea for the game.

They knew they didn’t have the time or money to get it made themselves, so they tried pitching the idea to some established game companies in the hopes of landing a licensing deal.

Through an agent they were able to pitch the idea to Mattel and secure a 3% licensing deal.

For the full story, listen to Nate’s interview on Side Hustle Nation.

What type of online business does Nate have?

According to our framework Nate has a physical product business, which would be considered a Level 5 online business.
