Kayla Sloan started her blog as a hobby way back in December 2013.
She networked with other bloggers and leveraged those connections to land her first freelance gigs…
I landed my first freelance writing job by simply asking to see if any of my blogger friends knew of any opportunities. One of them actually became my first client!
After a few weeks of working together, I noticed that the posts I was writing hadn’t been published. Since I always want to keep my clients happy, I simply asked if there was something I needed to do differently. That’s when my client mentioned that she was very overwhelmed with lots of other tasks and had gotten behind. She asked me if I was interested in working as her virtual assistant to help her get caught back up. Since I was desperate for money to get out of debt, I said yes.
That first month, I earned $285 and I was ecstatic!
Up until April of 2019, Kayla was posting regular income reports on her blog, showing that she was consistently earning $10,000+ per month by that point 💰
I’ve grown my business almost entirely from referrals. This means I don’t have to pitch to get new clients and I can choose who I want to work with.
I always recommend to new VAs that they start with their existing network of friends, family, business owners, and bloggers. This will help you land a client with less competition, which means more pay.
Agreed 👍
That lines up with the first 2 methods listed here…
Kayla launched her own VA training program at the end of 2017, and I’m guessing that has made up a good chunk of her income ever since.
It’s a common progression for online business builders…
Kayla became well-known as a virtual assistant who was consistently earning $10,000+ per month. So naturally the product she created was a course called $10K VA (reviewed here).
