Basketball YouTube Channel Earns Him $15,000/Month

Casey Keirnan
  • $15,000+ estimated monthly revenue

Casey Keirnan is the guy behind the A.M. Hoops YouTube channel 🏀

The channel focuses on NBA news and opinion, and has racked up 400,000 subscribers and 270 million views since launching in late 2019.

One of his most popular videos 👇

  • The richest NBA Player that NO ONE talks About – WHY?!…

Casey recently shared his story on Simon Owen’s podcast 🎙…

He started his career in local TV news, covering high school sports in small towns across Texas, and steadily moved up to larger markets over the years.

Casey credits his first news director for instilling in him the importance of storytelling.

💬 The director told him…

No one cares about sports. I don’t want you to do what you think a sports anchor should do as a reporter. I want you to do a story that the grandma watching our news, when sports comes on, she goes, “Oh, wait. I’m not going to change the channel. I like this sports guy, the stories he tells, I’m going to watch this because I enjoy this.”

(A good reminder there that news can’t just be informative nowadays; it also has to be entertaining to compete with all the other content out there.)

After paying his dues in local news, Casey landed a role as an anchor for CBS Sports HQ in 2017.

😕 But he struggled to find his footing…

I had only been anchoring for one year. and I didn’t even really watch sports growing up. I just thought, oh, that’d be a fun job. So I just kind of accidentally worked my way into this… and it was not comfortable at all.

Despite supportive coworkers lobbying for him, Casey’s contract was not renewed after 2 years 😫

Then, instead of trying to find another job, he took a chance on YouTube.

He launched A.M. Hoops in late 2019, initially producing 5 videos a week.

His strong storytelling skills from years in local news helped the content connect. And within 3 months, the channel was earning Casey as much revenue as his CBS salary 🥳

Apparently, the average salary for an on-air talent at CBS is about $66K.

So Casey must have been earning at least $5K/month back then.

Now with a much bigger audience in 2023, it’s probably safe to assume that he’s earning $15-20K each month 🤑

Casey revealed his revenue sources in the aforementioned podcast…

I’m about 50-50 with AdSense and brand deals.

Casey partially credits his success to focusing on a single sport rather than trying to cover everything…

Trying to be all things to all people on the internet is almost impossible, unless you come in with a giant name.

On the production side, Casey leveraged his experience from local news to shoot and edit videos himself in the beginning. He’s since hired help.

Sounds like he’s now living the dream…

I’ve got the sweetest gig in the world. I get to wake up, go to the gym, come home, get on my computer, write, literally turn my chair around, film, and then send it off to the editor. I love this.

And before you go thinking that only a guy with professional news anchor experience can pull off something like this, I refer you to a similar YouTube channel called Heat Check 👈

That channel has 600k subscribers, and it’s run by a random guy who lives in Macedonia 🇲🇰…
