How does Ryan make money online?

It looks like Ryan has made money online in several ways over the years

As of this writing, he has two projects listed on his Indie Hackers profile:

• Uploadfiles.io – a website for sharing and storing files, monetized with ads and subscriptions.
• Shoprocket – e-commerce software “that integrates into any existing website,” monetized with subscriptions.

In his Medium bio, Ryan also lists imgpile.com as one of his projects but I couldn’t find any additional info about that.

How much money does Ryan make?

The revenue for Shoprocket was reported as $10k/month at the end of 2019 (source).

The financial details of Uploadfiles.io are a bit clearer, as Ryan announced that he’d put the site up for sale on Flippa in May 2020.

Per the Flippa listing, the asking price for Uploadfiles.io was set to $450,000. Reported revenue for the previous six months was $9,462/month, with $8,262/month of that being profit.

(The previous six months were much better, with an average revenue of $25,913/month.)

Adding up the revenue for those two businesses gives us about $19.5k per month.

How did Ryan get started?

I’ve pieced together Ryan’s story from profiles on AngelList, Crunchbase, and Indie Hackers.

Highlights:

• Dropped out of college.
• Employed in “traditional businesses” across Europe for 4 years.
• Founded Click Here Digital in 2009, a small digital agency.
• At some point he took on two co-founders and they expanded the agency into Click Here Media in 2011.
• Ryan started built and launched Uploadfiles.io in February 2016. Sounds like he coded it himself.
• The founders of Click Here Media (including Ryan) launched Shoprocket in 2013. They were accepted into the Seedcamp accelerator and “spent 6 months at the Google Campus in London working on our product and building out our team.”
• In October 2019, the Shoprocket founding team parted ways and Ryan took full control.
