As I wrote in my Amazon FBA primer, I consider 2016 to 2018 to be the golden age of Amazon FBA.
That’s when it was still relatively new and cheap and there wasn’t so much competition. Back then, it seemed like almost anyone could make money with FBA 🤑
It’s still entirely possible to win big with an Amazon business, but you need to bring your A-game, especially if you’re doing Private Label.
If you’d rather fish in a less-competitive pond, you might want to cast your line in a smaller ecommerce marketplace like Walmart, Etsy or Target.
Walmart recently surpassed 100,000 sellers on their marketplace, compared to ~10 million on Amazon. Etsy has about ~5 million sellers and Target’s marketplace – which is still invite-only – has only 300 or so (source).
The growth rate of Etsy and Walmart’s marketplaces has me thinking that we’ll see increasing demand for seller tools and training for those platforms 📈
