I noticed two similar tweets going viral the other day…
- @itsPaulAi: 8 things impossible on ChatGPT but that Bard can do (for free)
- @moritzkremb: 10 things you can do with Bard that aren’t possible with ChatGPT
The tweets were posted about 4 hours apart.
I’m not sure if the second guy got the idea from the first. But even if @moritzkremb is a copycat, he still got 4+ million views and probably 1000s of new followers 📈
So while his tweet may not have been original, it worked.
It’s probably the most reliable strategy for going viral: find some popular/trending content, then leverage it to gain some attention for yourself or your business 😎
You can do that by…
- Creating your own version of whatever’s trending
- Responding with a hot take
- Repurposing the content for a different format/platform
- Creating a clever meme on the topic
- Etc.
Anyway, those tweets got me thinking about the top 10 most visited websites in the world (source)…
- Google.com
- YouTube.com
- Facebook.com
- Reddit.com
- Amazon.com
- Yahoo.com
- Twitter.com
- Wikipedia.org
- Weather.com
- Instagram.com
(Okay fine, I left out two from that list, because they’re a bit naughty 🙈 and I didn’t want this email to end up in your spam folder.)
For most of the sites above, there’s a way to see what’s trending on them…
- Google Trends
- YouTube Trending
- Facebook & Instagram Hot Topics
- r/popular and Subreddit Stats
- Amazon Best Sellers and Trending Products in May 2023
- Twitter Trends (log out to see worldwide)
If you’re a content creator looking to grow your audience (especially on social), it might be worth spending some time looking through those resources each week, and planning your own content accordingly 🧐
