Niall Doherty

Hey, I’m Niall Doherty.

I quit my last 9-to-5 job back in 2010.

Since then, I’ve earned my living online in various ways. Over the last 4 years (through 2023) I’ve earned $842,000 from my laptop.

I’m on a mission to accurately rate and review all the best Amazon FBA courses. My team and I have spent 120+ hours investigating these courses and getting feedback from real students.

All that to say: we know a thing or two about Amazon FBA and making money online.

The Best Amazon FBA Course?

We’re on a mission to find the best Amazon FBA course, based on our own extensive research plus feedback from real students.

Nine University seems like a decent course but it doesn’t quite make the top of our list…

How does Nine University help you make money?

Nine University is an online course that aims to teach you how to build an ecommerce business with Amazon FBA.

There are multiple strategies you can use for selling on Amazon, and 9U teaches you specifically about private labeling. This is when you create your own branded products to sell on Amazon.

Kale and Taylor explain private labeling from the 1-minute mark of this video…

Who is Nine University for?

According to my research, it seems both new and experienced Amazon sellers have benefitted from the Nine University training.

However, it seems to be geared more towards beginners who have never sold on Amazon before.

Having spent 120+ hours researching Amazon FBA, I’ve come to believe that building a successful Amazon FBA business – even with the help of a course like Nine University – is a tough task. Personally I would not recommend it if you’re new to working online.

Does Nine University have a good reputation?

For the most part, yes.

They have many positive reviews on Trustpilot and BBB.org, though the majority of reviews on those platforms seem to be generic praise from newbies rather than success stories from long-term students.

(More on that in a minute.)

You can also see some complaints and negative reviews of 9U via the links above, but the praise far outweighs the criticism.

Looks like there was some controversy about Nine University in 2020, when some prominent YouTubers accused them of being “fake gurus.” However, those videos seem to have been removed and I couldn’t find anything to substantiate their claims.

Kale from 9U later put out a video somewhat addressing the controversy…

Based on my research, Nine University does seem to be a legit training program, though I’m not a big fan of their sales funnel, which requires you to schedule a “no sales pitch strategy session” with a 9U representative before you can join.

Only on that call do they reveal the price of the training.

Are Nine University students getting results?

As mentioned, Trustpilot and BBB.org are filled with generic praise for Nine University.

I find such reviews meaningless, and would much rather see that the training is consistently helping students achieve significant success selling on Amazon.

Fortunately, a “wall of fame” page on the 9U website displays plenty of proof that students are building successful businesses.

I like that they show plenty of student success stories after 2018. Before 2018 seems to have been something of a golden age for Amazon FBA, but 9U training appears to still be effective in recent years.

How much does Nine University cost?

Annoyingly, Nine University does not have this information listed on their website. They require you to schedule a “no sales pitch strategy session” to learn the price of the course.

According to multiple reports online, the standard price of enrollment is $1,997. They apparently offered a payment plan in the past – $599 per month for 4 months – but it’s unclear if that’s still available.

I’ve also seen reports of upsells within the training, such as an upsell to a $297/month Fasttrack program, which apparently gets you “24/7 consulting, software discounts, trademarks & legal help.”

One student tells us that other upsells cost far more:

Another huge disappointment is the massive number of upsells after you join. The last thing you want to see after you’ve spent $1000s is then being asked for many $1000s more.

Keep in mind that you’ll also need some money to buy inventory or create your product before you can start selling, and more money for advertising your product once it’s live on Amazon.

According to my research you should expect to spend at least another $5000, beyond the cost of joining Nine University, to launch and market your product.

Nine University Discount?

I’ve scoured the internet looking for a legit Nine University discount, but have yet to find any reliable information about this. Sorry!

Refund Policy

You can request a refund of Nine University within 10 days of purchase, but only if you meet the requirements specified on this page

IMO, there are too many hoops to jump through to be eligible for a refund, and I’d much rather you get 30 days to properly explore the training and see if it’s right for you.

I haven’t seen a ton of complaints about Nine University, but those I have seen are often related to their refund policy.

How is the training structured?

The training is mostly delivered in video format and there’s quite a lot in there.

Here’s how it looks once you’re logged in…

The core training starts with a 14-day bootcamp, leading into the following sections…

  • Week One – The Foundational Bedrock of FBA
  • Week Two – 7 Figure Product / Brand Research
  • Week Three – Crafting the Perfect Product with an Elite Supplier
  • Week Four – Shipping to Amazon without Hassle + Paying for Orders
  • Week Five – Creating a Listing that Sells on Autopilot
  • Week Six – Going from “A” Product to “THE” Product
  • Week Seven – Elite PPC Launching + Robotic Growth

There are also some bonus sections covering topics like:

  • Reviews
  • Launching with Giveaways
  • Sourcing from USA manufacturers
  • Facebook Ads

The training is quite comprehensive, but it’s easy enough to find your way around and the search function works well.

It does seem a bit scattered at times though, with newer videos slotted in between older videos and several different instructors presenting the info throughout the training.

You also get access to a private Facebook group when you sign up. Last I checked, there were more than 8000 people in there and it was quite active.

Green Lights 🟢

Based on my research and submitted student reviews, here are several things to like about Nine University:

  • Lots of student testimonials and success stories.
  • The training is comprehensive, practical and step-by-step.
  • Active and helpful private community.
  • Created by successful Amazon sellers.

Red Flags 🚩

A few things about Nine University that might give you pause:

  • Very little info about the course cost available on the 9U website. You must schedule a call to get all the details.
  • Complicated refund policy makes it hard to qualify for a refund. Most complaints about 9U are related to this.
  • On the expensive end, when compared to other Amazon FBA courses.
  • Reports of excessive upsells after you join.
  • To give yourself a decent chance of success, a large investment ($5,000+) is required beyond the price of the course.

Other things you should know

  • Per my research on Amazon FBA, after buying a course like Nine University you should have at least an additional $5000 on hand to kickstart your Amazon business.
  • You’ll find lots of downloads and other resources within the course, including spreadsheets, PDFs, templates, etc.

Should you join Nine University?

It’s hard to knock Nine University when they have so many positive reviews and legit-looking success stories.

If you’ve been following their YouTube channel and like what you see there, and you have at least $10,000 to invest in building your Amazon FBA business, then signing up for 9U is probably worth your while.

(Just remember that it’s tough to qualify for a refund!)

That said, for most people just getting into Amazon FBA, I’d recommend starting with some lower-priced courses (see below) to test the waters and see if it’s a good fit for you.

Some good aspects but overall not worth the money

I joined this course a few years back…and there are some good aspects of it – like their fairly simple approach – but it’s too basic for the times now and it’s certainly not worth the money they charge, in my opinion.

Especially the higher tier packages where they charge $10k+ up to even $20k sometimes. I really don’t understand what justifies them to charge that much…

Another huge disappointment is the massive number of upsells after you join. The last thing you want to see after you’ve spent $1000s is then being asked for many $1000s more.

Overall, I can tell you many other Amazon courses which are either cheaper or the same price as this but offer way more. I don’t think these guys are even that active in selling on Amazon anymore… Whereas those who run some other courses are actual 7 and 8 figure sellers selling each and every day.

Pros and Cons

  • Their 7/7 method to product research is easy to understand and simple (though outdated now).
  • There is a decent sense of community spirit (unless you complain about not getting your refund etc. in which case they close down the post).
  • Their FastTrack option (which costs more) can be very useful if you need that extra help.
  • Outdated content, and it's not worth what they are charging right now... Especially their higher package tiers which I consider hugely overpriced and not worth it at all.
  • Lots and lots of upsells which is very discouraging. The last thing you want to see after spending $1000s joining a course...is them asking you for $1000s more on other things.
  • They're no longer active sellers on Amazon themselves. While they may still have live products selling on Amazon, the bulk of their time is not even spent selling on Amazon...unlike the actual 7 and 8 figure sellers who teach some other courses.
